Panorama–Boxing Day, 1920

JF Ptak Science Books   Quick Post

I saved this image for the real Boxing Day, and then of course promptly forgot it–I’ve missed the day, though perhaps it really doesn’t matter, because even though it isn’t ‘boxing”, it is “boxing”.

The boxing in question in this fantastic image is the Jack Dempsey-Billy Miske Heavyweight Championship Fight on 6 September 1920. Jack Dempsey retained his heavyweight crown by knocking out Billy Miske in the third round of this scheduled 10-round fight (the first to be broadcast by radio) before the crowd of 11,700–the impressiveness of the meeting hammered home with this 3600 panorama.
