Carr on Newton, WIlliam Walton’s Copy

[Newton, Isaac] John Carr. The First Three Sections of Newton’s Principia, with Copious Notes and Illustrations, and a Great Variety of deductions and Problems, design for use in schools.  Cambridge, Deighton & Sons, 1826. Second edition, 187pp, six folding plates (following the first edition of 167pp of 1821). Original paper spine and boards. Condition: wear along the joints and also along the top and bottom of the spine. Tight binding, with good margins.  Good copy.  $150

  • This was the mathematician William Walton’s copy (of Trinity College), with his bookplate and signature (“Wm. Walton/Trin. Coll.”). Also rubberstamped “Magdalene College” with a hand-written “cancelled” across it.
