"No date has yet been set when it is expected all the Japanese in the hills will be in our hands." So ends this three-paragraph report sating that 31,000 Japanese soldiers (including 17 generals) have been placed under guard in Luzon's prisoner of war camps. This was issued by the PR Office of the U.S. Army Headquarters, Western Pacific; the Japanese officially surrendered 15 August, and the surrender papers signed on 2 September, but it took quite some time for the news to filter out to all Japanese armed forces.
