Well, given the choice of having to use fat, or rather rendered fat--suet--as either (1) a medicine or (2) solidified enough to use as a jump rope, I think I'd have to select option #2. At least I wouldn't have to eat it.
But the fact of the matter is that in "real life", in the history of human life and the care of humans, suet was in fact used as an invigorating energy producer to be added to the daily diet. Or was it by the spoonful? I'm not sure, though I do see that it was available "Shredded" or as a "block".
I do admit to adding the jump rope text to this 1920 ad--but the rest of it is real.
