T.D. Lockwood, Practical Information for Telephonists. Printed by W.J. Johnston, New York City, 1882. First edition. Small, squarish book, 175x135mm, 192pp, 16pp ads. There are no illustrations except for the advertisement section. A Good copy, only. $175
After some introductory historical and general remarks, pp 34-103 or so Thomas.Dixon Lockwood (1848-1927, Electrician, American Bell Telephone Company) is concerned with different sorts of telephones, switchboards, transmitters; then another 20 pp of work on "the telephone inspector" and "the telephone inspector on detective duty", and then the final 20pp or so on telephone wires, "electric bell construction", and household lines. Pp 186-192 is concerned with "anticipations of great discoveries and inventions", which is an interesting four pages on "ideas in the air", and cases of simultaneous inventions. At the end there are another 16pp of mostly nicely-illustrated ads for telephones, telephone service, and telegraphs. This is a somewhat problematic copy as you can see in the photo, with some uneven wear to the cloth.
