Nobel Prize 1925 for the Invention of the Ultramicroscope (1903)
Siedentopf, H., Richard Zsigmondy. “Ueber Sichtbarmachung und Grössenbestimmung ultramikroskopischer Teilchen, mit besondrer Anwendung auf Goldrubingläser”, pp 1-49 (a long and significant paper). In Annalen der Physik, Leipzig, 1903, volume 10, 1903.
Recent black cloth, in fine condition. Provenance: Mathematischer Verein Bibliothek, University of Berlin, with their contemporary small rubber stamp on the title page, and another on the text block bottom. This volume was in the collections at Berlin during the same period in which Einstein lectured there. ("In 1914 Max Planck succeeded in persuading Albert Einstein to become a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin, and on 1 April 1914 Einstein was appointed director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Physics. From the 1915 summer semester until the 1928/29 winter semester he lectured at Berliner Universität."--Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin website.) That said Einstein and this book were just in the same-ish place at the same time--he was not so far as I can tell a member of the Berlin Mathematical Association/Society. It is, however, a nice association. Just about a FINE copy. $450
Also includes a number of other significant efforts by Abraham, Lummer, Braun, and Planck:
- Max Abraham. “Prinzipien der Dynamik der Elektrons”, pp 105-180 (an even longer paper, at this length unusual for the AdP, and important in the development of atomic theory).
Invention of the Lummer-Gehrcke Inferometer
- Otto Lummer and E. Gehrcke. “Über die Anwendung der Interferenzen an planparallelen Platten zur Analyse feinster Spektrallinien”. “The new apparatus, for which Lummerproposed the name Lummer-Gehrcke interference spectroscope, proved to be an excellent tool for spectroscopy and superior to the simple line grating." --Dictionary of Scientific Biography
Significant Early Paper in the History of Radio Communication
- Ferdinand Braun. "Einige versuche über Magnetisierung durch schnelle Schwingungen", pp., 326-333, an important paper in the development of radio communication.
- Braun. “Erklarung auf Hrs Slabys Antwort”, pp 665-673
- Max Planck. “Ueber die Grundlage des Loesungstheorie; eine Erwiderung”, pp 436-446.
