William Crookes. "A Fourth State of Matter", in Nature, June 17,1880, pp 153-4 in the weekly issue of pp 141-164. Removed from a larger bound volume. Offered with the original wrappers, including 10pp of advertisements (making this flavor of the Nature issue pretty scarce). Very Good copy: $125 Crookes was a superior experimentalist with many accomplishments, and in many ways was a leading light of British scientists of that century...but he just could not turn the corner and become the Towering Figure, which he may have been able to become. In any event, here's his paper on the "radiant matter" fourth state of matter, which appeared in Nature one week after it appeared in the Proceedings of the Royal Academy (of June 10th). Nice copy.
