The first great paper on the pendulum experiment by Jean Bernard Leon Foucault appeared five months earlier on February 3, 1851 in volume 32 of the CR, "Demonstration physique du movement de rotation de la terre au moyen du pendule." "After the well known original experiments with the pendulum made by Foucault those of General Dufour who was assisted by Messrs Wartmann and Marignac are the next in importance..."
