JF Ptak Science Books Quick Post
I find this cross section and plan of a railway signal light to be spare, elegant, and beautiful. Just enough work was done to the detail, with all extraneous matter left behind. It is one of those excellent pieces of thinking that pop out all of the time in the 19th century engineering journals that I have here--this one really made an immediate impression. The work is that of Richard Rapier, and appears in the Proceedings of the Institute of Civil Engineers and published in London in 1874.
