This paper follows the momentous work by Oersted on electromagnetism in 1820, and Davy's paper on the subject (“Electricity On the Magnetic Phenomena Produced by Electricity”) that appeared in the Philosophical Transactions and published January 1, 1821, and is a reprint of an earlier printing of the paper in the Philosophical Transactions of 1821.
